"The Metrash-Williams Family of CT &NY

Updated March 7, 2004

About Our Family Research

I have just started to research my ancestors. The Metrash portion of the family resided in Connecticut from 1810 they are listed in the 1880 census as mulattos I know that both Adam Metrash and his wife Elizabeth (Peppinger) were hearing impaired. They had 4 children one of whom was my fathers mother. I have been able to trace the Williams branch of the family to John Wesley Williams and his wife Lucy (Simpkins)both of whom were slave in the Cape Charles VA area from the early 1850's until they escaped and moved to New York city. They had 10 children all were born in New York. I don't know if there were any children prior to their escape.
There are several other person with the last name of Metrash located in the Norwalk area that I have found but can't find out if they are related to Adam or not.
