Fredrick William FEMLING (son of Johann FEHMERLING and Henriette Maria STAPELFELD) was born January 30, 1831 in Saxony Prussia Germany, and died November 19, 1885 in Saratoga Wood WI. He married Bertha Laura WILEY on February 28, 1866 in WI.

Newspaper reported emigration to U.S. in 1848; at age 18, Enlisted in Civil War
Oct. 3, 1861, with Ed Ellis as next of kin on papers, was a veterinarian's
assistant during the war; got out July 16, 1865 as Pvt. CO. G. 12th Reg. He
became a member of Wood Co. Post No. 22 G.A.R. He farmed in the town of
Saratoga 160 acres of land; 100 acres of that was over plow. He is buried at
Forest Hill Cemetary in grave 8, lot4, block 157. His tombstone lists him as
52yrs., 9mo., 19days.

Bertha Laura:
Is said to have recieved $30 a month veteran's pension after having made a
mistake filling out her papers after Fred's death. She was living with her
daughter, Bertha Dike at the time of her death in Sterling, CO.

Missionary 24yrs. old at time of her death.
