"Grandpa John was clearing land. While chopping a tree down, a limb fell on his shoulder. It broke some ribs and punctured his lungs. He crawled to the house and lived three days. He was always a farmer - was too young to go to Civil War. He came here from England through one of the Carolinas, I think South Carolina".
John and his first wife Addie lived near Bundick's Lake.
