Marriage Notes for Martha Smith and Lee Reeves Miller: The book, "Henry's Heritage, A History of Henry County, Alabama, Vol. 2" contains interesting information on the Lee R. Miller family. The section on the Miller's was written by Neile Miller Christopher. According to the book, Lee, his wife Martha and children moved to Henry County, AL in 1847 or 1848. They settled in the Haleburg, Shorterville Community and built a two-story log house. Lee and Martha joined the Yatta Abbey Baptist Church, which is now the Adonirum Baptist Church. Records of the Adonirum Church list Lee and Martha as charter members. The Fordham family were their nearest neighbors. Mrs. Lottie Barnett Herndon Woodham writes in "Henry's Heritage" that "most of the Fordham and Miller activities were toward the Chattahoochee River. Stage coaches were used, but they were erratic, so the river was the principal means of transportation." Indians lived in the area and maintained friendly relations with the settlers.
