Raymond moved from Pattonville, TX to Port Acres, TX to get a job with Gulf Oil in Port Arthur.
He found a house in Port Acres located on a road off Hwy. 365, south of West Port Arthur road.
Clyde Harvey and Oral Terry later drove Dorris, Thomas and Ann Harvey down to Port Acres in
a Model A Ford car. Later the Harvey's moved to Ray Ave. in Port Acres (across from Stephen
F. Austin High School). They later moved to a house located at West Port Arthur Road and
61st or 62nd street. In 1949 they moved to a garage apartment located at Jackson Ave. and
Llano Street in Port Neches. Later they moved to 801 Llano street.

Thomas attended the 1st grade in Milton, TX. The school was all-inclusive. The first through
seventh grades met in one classroom. The first row was the first grade, second row was the
second grade, and so on. Thomas remembered that there was only on student, a boy, in the
seventh grade.

Raymond Harvey and his family lived in Pattonville. He travelled to Port Arthur, TX and found a job as an assistant operator at the Gulf Oil Refinery in Port Arthur. He found a house in Port Acres and made preparations for his family to move in. A short time later his wife Dorris and their two children Thomas and Ann, joined him in Port Acres. They were transported in a Model A Ford by Clyde Harvey and Oral Terry. Clyde was one of Raymond's brothers. Oral was a friend of Clyde. At the time, Thomas was in the first grade at the school he attended in Milton. He recalls that in Milton, grades one through seven met in one classroom. There were seven rows of desks and each grade occupied one row. There was only one person in the seventh grade, a boy.

Sometime later Raymond and his family moved to a house on Ray Avenue. Their house was across the street from present-day Stephen F. Austin High School in Port Acres. They later moved to a house on the corner of West Port Arthur Road and 61st (or 62nd) Street. Their next move was to a garage apartment in Port Neches. It was located on Jackson Avenue across from Llano Street. They later moved to 801 Llano Street.
