"Stephen P. Mathena, 85, widely known and family esteemed citizen of Tazewell County died at 9:10 o'clock last night at this home in Tip Top (Virginia). Mr. Mathena was born reared and spent his entire life in the Tip Top section where he was loved and respected by all who knew him. Funeral service will be held at the home at 11 o'clock, Friday morning, conducted by the Rev. Elmer Dean and the Rev. Den Gillespie. Burial will be in the family cemetary. He is surviced by his wife, who before marriage was Miss Martha Ellen Tabor of Mud Fork and the following childre: Mrs. Will Tate of Nemours, Mrs Jane Mathena of Mud Fork, Mrs Edd Barrett of Nemours, Mrs. Willie Dawson of Tip Top, Mrs pansy Whitlock of Roanoke, John Mathena of Tip Top, Noah Mathena of Washington, D.C. and S. T. Mathena of Bossevain, Va. Mr. Mathena is also survived by thirty-six living grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and flower bearers granddaughters."
