I have just started, so I'm a complete amateur at this.
My great grandfather Sylvester M. Helms. He was married to a Clariss Ann Irvin. Sylvester M. Helms date of birth and death is unknown.
This is an obituary about Clariss Ann Irvin.
"Clariss Ann Irvin was born near Tampico, Jackson County, Indiana. on Sept 5, 1839. In childhood she came with her parents to this county where she has always resided. She was the oldest of 7 children, four of whom survived her. She was married to Sylvester M. Helms on Feb. 14, 1855, in Washington County, Indiana. To them were born ten sons and three daughters. Seven sons and one daughter survived her. She joined the Methodist Church early in life and lived a devoted Christian for more than 35 years. She was lately affiliated with the U. B. Church at Mt. Carmel, Indiana. She was a worthy and accomodating neighbor, always making friends of associates. She was a kind and affectionate mother, never too feeble or tired to care for her children. Her life has been a living example of patience, kindness, and truth, and an example for all."

Frank Helms Dies At Age 94.
Lewiston - Frank M. Helms, 94 of Lewistown, formally of Ipava, died at 10 p.m. Thursday at Mason District Hospital, Havana.
Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Shawgo Memorial Home, Ipava, with the Rev. J. A. Wilton officiating. Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery.
Visitation will be held this afternoon and evening.
He was born in Scottsburg, Indiana Jan. 14, 1877. A son of Sylvester and Clariss Irvin Helms. He was first married on Dec. 18, 1895 to Cora Elizabeth Morris, who preceded him in death. They were married on Dec. 18, 1895. They had three sons and three daughters.
Also surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Ada Howell of Salem, Indiana, and Mrs. Elsie Thompson of Lewistown;2 sons, Glenn of Shelbyville, Indiana, and Ralph Helms of Mt. Clemens, Michigan. and a brother, Charles Helms of Topeka.
Mr. Helms had worked at the Ipava Farmers' Elevator prior to retiring.
My father was, Ralph Evert Helms, born Jan. 27, 1904, in Little York, Indiana. He married my mother on Jan. 23, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio. My mother's name was Lillian May Roberts, who was born on July 16, 1903 in Ashtabula Ohio. After they were married they moved to Michigan. My parents had one son and four daughters.
I am the youngest of their children. My father Ralph Evert Helms,
Sr. was a resident of Clinton Township, Macomb County, Michigan.
He died on Sunday, Jan. 14, 1990 at the age of 85 years. The funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1990 at 11 a.m. in the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He was buried at Cadillac Memorial Cemetery, Clinton Township, Michigan with Rev. Roger Reckling, Pastor of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Sterling Heights, Mi. officiating.
