I was born 1934 and am one brother of two, the sons of Francis R. Helmer and Ida Greco, the grand children of George Helmer of Maple Lawn Farm, Upper Snells Bush Road, St. Johnsville N. Y. Grandfather b.1867 d. 1952 Grandmother Helen (Nellie) Fitzpatric Helmer b 1869 d. 1962. Francis had three brothers, John b.1894 d.1970, Phillip b. 1895 d. 1970, Cletus b. 1908 d. 1988, one Sister Lilian Muir b. 1897 d. 1973. I have traced my brance of the Helmer family back to 1757 to Phillip Helmer of Manheim. And from there back to Phillip Helmer the Pioneer, from the Helmer Family Book and back two more generations to Georg Helmer of Kaiserlautern, Germany. Some of the information was gleaned from the book the Helmer Family by Pascoe Williams. There is conflicting information in the book. In some areas it ask more questions than it answers. But if you have access to it and know your ancestors back to the mid 1800's, it could be of some help. The Helmer family is from the Mohawk Valley of New York and is scattered through out U. S. and Canada. Most of the Helmer's I talked to prior to doing my own research claimed a relationship to The Indian Scout Adam Helmer.(of Drums Along The Mohawk fame) And if you were capable of doing this then you were probably related. Since I have completed my family tree I now know there were many other well known Helmer's including those that fought in the Revolution and at the Battle of Oriskany.
