I am the youngest of three girls born to John J. (Smudgie) and Mary Jane (Mahoney) Moran, of Buffalo, New York. My father, born in 1919, was the son of David Moran originally from County Clare, Ireland and his first wife, Helen (Hunt) Moran, from Kilmorna, County Kerry, Ireland. My grandmother, Helen Hunt, arrived on Ellis Island on September 28, 1912. She gave her age as sixteen. My father had several siblings: Rita Schneider, David, Margaret (Peggy) Reedy, Ann Casey, Helen, Marie, Katherine (Kay) Hellems, Evelyn Judd and James. After my grandmother's death, my grandfather married Beatrice Campbell, and had two daughters: Patsy O'Sullivan and Maureen Derwald. My mother Mary Jane Moran was born in 1923. She was the only child of Joseph P. Mahoney and Cerness Duggan. At the time of her marriage, my grandmother was the widow of Benjamin (?) Wyant, who died in the 1918 Flu epidemic. My grandfather, loved William (Billy) Wyant and I believe adopted him. Sometime, before my mother's birth, Billy contracted Spinal Meningitis and died. My grandmother, was the youngest of eleven children, born to Owen Duggan and Mary Margaret Dillon. Her name, Cerness, came as the result of allowing the priest baptizing her, to name her. The priest was from Scatree Island in Ireland and named her after a saint from that region. Some of my grandmother's siblings were: William, Bridget, Margaret, Katherine, Mary, John, Eugene(?)and others, whose names and fates we have just begun to research. I will update this page as often as I can, with dates and locations. For example, I know that my grandfather was born in Canada and was forty-five when my mother was born.
