I am researching my Norwegian ancestors who homesteaded in Minnesota, Iowa and North Dakota in the mid to late 1800s, and I welcome exchange of information if you have any of the same ancestors.
The Helland and Kvislen branch came from Horg in Storen, Sor-Trondelag; Ringebu, Oppland; and Stavanger, and settled in Cokato, Wright County, Minnesota, as well as North Dakota.
The Thompson and Johnson branch came from Vestri Toten; Hadeland, Oppland; and Nord Aurdal and settled in Black Earth, Wisconsin; Shotley, Beltrami, Minnesota; and Decorah, Iowa.
In the late 1920s to 1930 my parents' families moved from Minnesota to California, where my parents met, even though they were both born in Minnesota.
Some of the Hellands and Thompsons remained in their home states back east in Decorah, Iowa, and Faribault, Minnesota, among other places.
I have tried to upload my GED here but it continues to say "Data file could not be found." Therefore please look for my family tree at ancestry.com (Helland Thompson) or tribal pages.
