Notes for Marie Celestine de la Roche: A lady in waiting to Marie Antoinette. Escaped to England at some time during the French Revolution. She was reputedly a lady of title, possibly Belgian. One story is that she was smuggled aboard a fishing boat, dressed in fisherman's clothes, and that her brother, Peter de la Roche, a member of the King's Guard, was not so lucky and was captured and guillotined. At some point she was known as the "widow Tondeur" and then after she married a Richard Kenning. (Source - Caroline Scott research)
