Henderson Family, Ontario, Canada Updated March 26, 2002
About Our Family Research
Thomas George Henderson arrived in Canada from Scotland some time in the early 1800s with his wife Rebecca McQuade. They settled in Edwardsburg Township near Spencerville, Ontario.
Thomas and Rebecca had 10 children, Adam Henderson became my grandfather. He was postmaster at Groveton from 1897-1913. The post office was in the house where I was born to Adam's son,William Henderson, and Margaret (born Cummings)from Ventnor, Ontario.
I was the youngest of six children, none of whom stayed home on the farm. My name is Clare Henderson, the Irish "Clare" I suppose, since I am male.
I have not discovered where in Scotland Thomas came from nor who his ancestors were. There were many Thomas Hendersons and the problem is to discover the right one.
The Henderson House in Groveton, Ontario (13 KB) Adam Henderson bought the farm where this house stands. He sold it to his son, William who, along with his wife Margaret, raised six children here: Ray, George, Dorothy, Madeline, Enid and Clare.
