My maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Pitts, but I have always gone by the name "Betty," so since my last marriage, my name is Betty Herr. I'm now 85 years old and would like be able to complete my records before I join my ancestors. I have done a lot of research on the Pitts family but have not been able to go back far enough. My grandfather, William Robert Turpin Pitts, came from Maryland. He married Mary Ellen (or Eleanor) Dixon. He had a colorful life and left stories related to him by his great Uncle. His English ancestors came from Virginia, as early as the 1600s, when one was awarded a grant for land there for military service for the crown. I can add more to this later when I have the facts and dates in front of me. I'd like to hear from anyone doing research on the Pitts family.
