I am Susan Lee Kenan (Blackwell) Herbster of Emporia, VA. I am the daughter of Marvin McKinley Kenan and Mary Lorraine Reynolds. My father is a direct decendent of Arthur McKinley Kenan and Ethel Cottle of Wallace, NC. We have three gatherings each year in September and October. We gather in Wallace, NC once a year as Arthur Mckinley Kenan's sons, daughters, spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. We have a fun time of remembering jokes, history, and the many family gatherings together.

I began to research our family last year (2001) before I was hospitalized, and have traced the other two branches of the families of Kenans. Aftering speaking with Kenan Kern, a descendent of William Kenan, and author of the book "The Kenan Family," I believe I am a descendent of Felix Kenan. Our family came from Ireland, England, or Scottish decent.
