Hi, my name is Alexander R. Hicks of Hastings, MN and I am creating a family tree and history for my 8th grade history project. It has been interesting finding out about my family. I have several ancestors that immigrated to the U.S. from Europe including Germany, England and Prussia. My great-great-great grandfather's brother was Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany and ruled during the 1st World War. When he died my great-great-great grandfather received a $700 inheritance which was a great deal of money at the time. On my mom's side my great-great-great grandmother Sophia Dorthea Teonebeohn immigrated to America from Soldorf,Germany. When she was 18 years old she and her sisters and one brother sailed to America on a ship. By the sixth month they thought they would never see land again. She would never say how they finally got to Henderson, Minnesota. They did not like talking about it. They felt unsafe because it was the time of the Sioux uprising and then they fled to St.Paul. Their means of transportation was a covered wagon, staying just one step ahead of the Indians.
What is weird is that my dad's side of the family is part Sioux Indian. While everyone else was deathly afraid of the Indians obviously my father's family wasn't. My grandpa's father on my dad's side was part Sioux Indian and my great-grandma was forced to give him up to the orphanage in North Dakota and that is why we do not have much information on his side of the family.
My family had a really interesting life immigrating to America, farming the land, fleeing the Indians and being part Indian.
