During my earlier years of life, I had no real interest - like most youth - in my family's genealogy. On rare occasion I would ask my parents about their parents, but not much more than that. As my own chidren grew up and my mother, who helped raise both of them, advanced into her "golden years", my interest and curiosity grew, until it reached a burning desire to know as much as I could find. My mother had some wonderful pictures of relatives on her side, along with some papers that listed genealogy. My dad's side, however, was quite the opposite, until I began to make the effort to contact living relatives. Gradually, I gathered information and materials until I learned that my dad's lineage went as far back as 1500 to Grunbach, Germany. Like many families from Europe, our name had changed at least a couple times before ending up as Higley.
So, now I've reached a point in my discovery to feel compelled to start putting some organization together. This may most likely be merely another step in the level of depth and sophistication as I find myself "hooked" on the process and adventure of learning details about my family's history.
