John A. BURKE was a representative in the Kansas House in 1905. He also in the Civil War. Second marriage to Agnes Duvall, no children.

Biographical Sketches of State Representatives:

John A. Burke, who is Representative from District No. 76, lives in Danville, Harper county. He was born in Macedon, Wayne county, New York, January 22, 1845. He came to Kansas from Michigan in 1877. Bu occupation he is a farmer, but he also handles grain and coal. At the age of seventeen he enlisted in Company C, Twenty-fifth Michigan Infantry, and served until the close of the war in 1865. He has never been elected to public office before, but has always tried to have the offices in his locality filled by honest, capable men. He has alwaybeen a Republican, and has served his party as a delegate to numerous conventions. He is a Mason, and has a wife and seven children.

On the S E 1, 32, 6, we found John A. Burke, who undoubtedly believes that "Industry brings its own reward" as we found him plowing. He was born in New York in 1845, came from Michigan to this county in May of 1877. "The longer I stay the better I like it" Has 100 acres broke, a frame house 16x26, one and a half stories and is well finished inside and out. Has 70 fruit trees planted; last year had 20 acres of sod corn, fifteen of nillet, four of wheat and 10 of oats; also raised 160 bushels of turnips on one-half acre. has in 50 acres of wheat and intends putting in 15 of millet, twenty of corn and ten of oats.

State of Kansas, County of Harper,
On this 20th day of May, AD one thousand nine hundred and twelve, personally appeared
before me, a notary public within and for the county and state aforesaid, John A. Burke
who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 67 years of age, and a resident
of Harper, county of Harper, State of Kansas; and that he is the identical person who was
enrolled at Pipestone, Michigan, under the name of John A. Burke on the 13th day of
August, 1862, as a Private, in Co. "C" 25th regiment, Michigan Infantry in the service of
the United States, in the Civil War and was honorably discharged at Salisbury, NC on the
24th day of June 1865.
That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise
than as stated above. That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height, 5
feet 10 inches; complexion, light; color of eyes blue; color of hair, brown; that his
occupation was Machinist; that he was born January 22, 1845, at Macedon, NY.
That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows:
Pipestone, Michigan, then in 1877 moved to Harper Kansas, then in 1906 moved back to
Benton Harbor, Michigan, in 1908 returned to Harper County, KS and now resides here.
That he is a pensioner under certificate No 1011119. That he has applied for pension
under original No. (unknown)
That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the
United States under the provisions of the act of May 11, 1912.
That his post-office address is Harper, county of Harper, State of Kansas.

John A. Burke, a Pvt. Of Company "C" 25th Regiment Michigan Infantry Volunteers, was
enrolled on the 13 day of August, 1862, at Pipestone for 3 years, and is reported: on roll
for Sept and Oct 1862, present and so reported to June 30th 1863. July and August 1863
absent detailed in C & Mchs Corps. August 18th 1863.
Sept and Oct 1863, present. Nov and Dec 1863, absent in ??? and Mchs Corps 23 AC
since July 28th 1863. January and February same reports. March and April 1864 detailed
as ??? by order Maj. Gen Foster and sent to Ky. May and June 1864 same report, since
January 10th 1864. July and August 1864 same report. Sept and Oct 1864, present, and so
reported to Dec. 31st 1864. Jan and Feb 1865 absent Teamster in 23rd A. C. supply train.
March and April 1865 same report. Mustered out a private with Company at Salisbury,
NC June 24th, 1865. Regiment return for Nov. 1863 absent E & M. corps
Name not found on Roll of detached men serving at 26th, 23rd, 2nd A.C. on file in this
office. No evidence of alleged disabilities. Regiment Hospital records not on file.
