Family tradition says Joe was very strange. He was of unusual build with very long arms in proportion to the rest of his body. He was a heavy drinker and was involved in many antics. His mother always told him that she would return to haunt him after her death. He really believed this to be true. He slept with a gun under his pillow at all time after her death to protect himself from her ghost. One night his mule made a noise outside his window. He was had been drinking heavily and thought this to be his mother. He fired the gun out the window and killed his mule. This is only one of the stories I have heard my father and aunt tell about Uncle Joe.
