Ebenezer McNary was reared in Washington County, Pennsylvania. When a young man he moved to Ohio, where he was married and resided until 1848. Then moving to Brown Co. IL., where he and his family made their home until 1869, then moved to Sheldon MO. He worked at the tailors trade in Ohio and Illinois, but farmed after moving to Missouri. He is of Scotch descent, a Republican. He and his wife are members of the Presbyterian Church.

The history of the McNary family of Sheldon dates back to James S. McNary. He was born in Scotland in 1711. He was married, but his wife's name is unknown.

James. S. was a shoe cobbler by trade and came to Washington county Pennsylvania in 1760.

James S. and his wife raised four sons and one daughter. Mr. McNary died in 1796 and is buried at Harmons Crook, Pennslyvania.

David McNary, one of the sons Of James W. was born in York County PA in 1757. (Contradiction says James came to PA in 1760) He lived there until his death in 1817.

EbenezermcNary was born 6 August 1820, either in Broke Co. W. VA. or in Washington Co PA. mone than likely in Brooke Co. WV. The son of William and Margeret Ramsey McNary, Eenezer was but a small baby, when his father William made out his will, 5 June 1821, and proved Brooke Co. WV August 1821. Among the terms of the will being that Ebenezer and his brother Samuel wer to share the houshold with their mother until the time that each should reach their majority. Ebenezer sold his interest in the fmaily home to his brother James, 9 Sept 1841 ( his brother Samuel having doen the same on 18 Dec 1839) In Samuel's deed to James it stated that the mother had departed this life, by that time. By 1843 Ebenezer had learned the tailors trade. (I have yet to find him apprentices) and made his way to Adams Co. Ohio, where he married Mary Catherine Sprinkle, daughter of David Sprinkle and Elizabeth Mets, on 15 Feb. 1843. We have not been able to prove the place of marriage, only the date as taken from the McNary family bible. However, their sons claimed to be form in Jacksonville, Meigs TWP, dist. 218 Adams Co. Ohio. Mary Melissa and Elizabeth Margaret, William and George being enumerated at that time. And Ebenezer is listed as being born in VA and a tailor by trade. They moved to Mt. Sterling in June 1851 and their son James Edgar was born in Aug 1851. They were sitill in Mt. Sterling 1855 when the State Census was taken, but by 1860 then had moved to Versailles Twp. (9 miles from Mt. Sterling) when the federal Census was taken. In 1864 Mary Melissa Married James Watson in Meredosia, Morgan Co. Ohio, on Dec 15. Elizabeth Margaret married Albert Thoroman, Date and Place yet unknown, however they had one son who died and is interred in South Side Cemetery, Brown Co. Il. His hame was Emery, who died 11 Aug 1867 aged 11 mo, 12 days. Elizabeth Margeret is listed in some old papers of James E. McNary as having died 21 April 187 in Brown Co. IL. Ebenezer and Mary Catherine also had other children die in Brown Col IL, Charles H died Sept 17, 1860, aged 9 mo and 16 days; Lilly Louisa who died 23 May 1864 aged 7 yr., 5 mo, 27 days. Both are interred in Southside cemetery, Versailles Twp, Brown Co IL. By 1869 the McNarys moved to Barton Co. MO and were living in Doylesport through 880 as Ebenezer and his Mary C. a son Albert, and daughter Ella May, were enumerated as well as daughters Mary Melissa(widow of James Watson) and their Children Rolland, Jullian,Nellie May, James and Wilber Daughter maria Alice (widow of James Newton McDowell ) and their children Frederick, Ida and Eugene Edgar. Ebenezer purchased a farm in Sheldon,Vernon Co, MO and lived his final years there. Together Ebenezer and Mary Caherine had 11 children, eight living to reach maturity, and had families of their own. Ebenezer died 30 May 1900, just 5 months after his beloved wife of 57 years, she having died 6 Jan 1900. They are both interred in Sheldon cemetery, Vernon Co. MO as well as other family members.
