James Hewitt was born 08 Feb 1781 in Bladensburg, Pringe Georges Co., Maryland, USA, and died 15 Oct 1821 in Washington, District of Columbia, District of Colombia, USA. He married Caroline Sarah Ann Grayson on 10 Feb 1805, daughter of Spence Monroe Grayson and Mary Elizabeth Wagener.
