Notes for John Henry Hines: John Henry Hines came to Grimes County, Texas from Pike County, Alabama with his widowed mother around 1878 where they settled with his brother James who had settled there in 1875. Two years later after his marriage to Lou V. they moved from Grimes County to near by Leon County where the family lived for two years. In 1882, they left Leon County, Texas north into Indian Territory, Oklahoma and settled in the community of Wilson, located near the Marshall county line in extreme southeastern corner of what is now Carter County, Oklahoma. He and Lou V. had a large family and lived here for eighteen years. In 1900, they again moved northward, deeper into the Indian Territory, settling in what is now known as Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma near the town of Pearson. A short time later they moved near Maud. In 1913 John Henry Hines was visiting his daughter Mintie near Ada, when he died at the age of 56. The river was high and they were unable to get his body back to Oak Grove Cemetery near Asher where his wife Lou V. was eventually buried. This is the dressed up version of the reason John and Lou were buried in different cemeteries. According to Thelma Hines, Lou V. kicked John out of the house and wouldn't let him back in and he died on the way to see a doctor in Ada.
