Notes for Louisiana Virginia Carter: According Jimmie Yeats, Lou V. Carter came by her name because she was born in a covered wagon on the line between Louisiana and Virginia as the family migrated from Virginia to Louisanna. The following is according to information given to me by Jimmie Yeats: Lou V. moved with her parents from Louisianna to Texas, settling in Grimes County where she met her future husband. In 1880, she and her husband and daughter moved to Leon County, Texas where they farmed for the next few years. They made their first big move in 1882 when they went north into Indian Territory and settled in a community called Wilson, now called Carter County just southeast of Ardmore. Here the family stayed for about 18 years. At the turn of the century she and her husband moved to Pottawatomie county settling near Pearson and later moving to near Maud where they lived the rest of their lives. John Henry died while visiting Mintie in Ada and was buried in Center Cemetery. Lou V. expressed and interest in having John Henry's remains moved to the Oak Grove Cemetery. An attempt was made to unearth the remains, but the only things found were a handle to the coffin and a thigh bone. The children did not tell their mother this, simply saying the transfer was not possible. The Carter family was of Irish descent according to family legend.
