Notes for Thelma Saunders: Thelma was originally from Colorado. Her father had a heart condition and the doctor told him he needed to move to a lower altitude. He loaded his family up in a truck and a car and headed for Arkansas. While stopping in Oklahoma near Asher, they decided to stay there. I visited with Thelma on May 31, 2000 and learned a lot from her about the Hines family. She was living in the house where she and Burl raised there family. At that time she was 85 years old and sharp as a tack. She remembered every child, grandchild and great grandchild, and their birthdays. She showed me the Oak Grove Cemetery where Lou V. is buried and then we drove to the "red hill" where the Hines Family Reunion picture was taken. She told me she received rent from an oil company for pumping oil from her land. She thought it was unfair that the oil companies could use your land without paying you for the use of it. She was told that you could not do that, so she went to a lady attorney in Shawnee and had the papers drawn up stating that the oil company would have to pay her rent. The oil company agreed, and to this day she gets a yearly rent check.
