I am Keith Hiott Sr.,son of Allie Proveaux,daughter of Benjamin Franklin Proveaux b.abt1906,murdered in 1930 and buried at the Buckhead Baptist Church in Colleton county SC.His father was b.01 Jan 1864,Voluntine or Valentine as he was sometimes called ,or Chief as he staggered the streets of Bamberg,SC addicted to alcohol as most half breed Indians were in the 1880s. He was born in Branchville SC area married to Amanda ? .His father was James Green Proveaux and his mother Mahala ?.Only 2 Proveaux listed in SC 1870 census.Voluntines children were Ruby,George Clifton,Duncan (Dunc),Shellie,Henry(A Preacher),Benjamin Franklin d.1930,and Susie.Census of 1870 shows the first proper record of Voluntine, though illiteracy among moonshiners was well known so the spelling did change in time.Remembered visits to Aunt Shellie's and graveyard visits and conversations with my grandmother and those of Roy Kesson of Orangeburg,SC account for most of my imformation.Church records forth coming I hope.,
