About Our Family Research

Our first and last real great family reunion ever was on June 12th, 1965. I thought that was big! Now, committed to really filling out our family tree, I've begun to imagine the reunions yet to be! The family research began with my great-grand mother, a first generation Daughter of the Confederacy. Her father, Henry Clay Carter, of Duplin County, North Carolina, was the only son of Herring Carter, of Alexander, of Solomon, John - all the way back to Thomas Carter III, 1647-1710, of Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Henry was the only brother, of four who served, to survive the War Between the States. My grandmother, Juanita, left behind huge amounts of hard copy of bonafied documentation, and much other credible information she collected from official sources. She, my mother, my daughter and I are carrying on Henry's daughter, Rosa Lee Carter's tradition - five straight generations of honoring those who came before us by devoting time to historical efforts that help maintain their memory. The knowledge we've gathered along the way is staggering.
