About Our Family Research

My family have lived under the slopes of Bennachie, Aberdeenshire for as long as i can trace back. The story goes that my granny's ancestors came down with Donald of the isles to fight at Harlaw, Inverurie in 1411. They liked it so much that they stayed. Another side said that we were chased out for poaching. So maybe fighting at Harlaw was a better option than the penalties for poaching. Who knows.

Many of my grandparents cousins emigrated, so Iknow there are Coutts, Johnstons, Irvines and Finnies in the USA and Canada, and Gilmores in New Zealand. So if anybody out there can help out to tie up loose ends I'd be really greatful.
