Last Will And Testament of William "of J" Howell

In the name of God Amen:

I William Howell being of sound and disposing mind and body, do make and appoint this to be my last will and testament in manner and form as follows.

FIRST my will and desire is that I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary during her natural Life all my estate of every kind and character both lands and chattel. After the payment of my debts.

2nd I give and bequeath to my daughter Francis Holland the wife of John Holland five dollars.

3rd I give and bequeath to my daughter Susan Howell the wife of Dempsey Howell the sum of five dollars.

4th After the death of my beloved wife Mary, I give to my son Zachariah Thomas Howell, to my daughter Elizabeth Howell, and my daughter Sarah W. Howell, to them the three last named of my children and to their heirs forever, all of my estate of all kinds both lands and chattels not before mentioned. And I do hereby revoke and make void any and all former wills made by me at any time or times and do declare these presents to be and contain my last will and testament. In witness where of I the said Testator William Howell have to this my last will set my hand seal this 17th day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty four.

This Last Will and Testament of William Howell (of J) Late of this County, deceased, was this day fully proved by the solemn affirmation of William T. Holland and Z. T. Holland the subscribing witnesses thereto and was thereupon ordered to be recorded.

To Nansemond Co., Clerk
The undersigned respectfully reports to Court that William Howell Sheriff and Administrator of William Howell (of J), deceased has exhibited before your Commissioner a statement of all money received by him as said Administrator and with which he became chargeable, and of all monies disbursed by him during the period embraced in the foregoing account, together with the vouchers in Support of the disbursements: that he finds no balance to be due by said administrator to the said estate, that the account is supported by satisfactory vouchers and that the said fiduciary has given such bond or by the law requires, in a penalty and with sureties deemed sufficient. That the said Administrator was embraced in a list of fiduciaries posted at the front door of the Courthouse of Nansemond County, in the 1st day of July Court last, and now on this day (ten days having elapsed since said was posted as aforesaid) the foregoing account is stated and completed.
Given under my hand the day and year aforesaid.
