John Joseph Foley (son of Patrick Foley and Johanna Gloster) was born 16 November 1868 in Warrenheip Reg. No. 21919, and died 7 January 1922 in Melbourne East Reg. No 2150 Aged 53. He married Annie Elizabeth Hassett on 25 October 1899 in Colac Reg. No. 7020.

John Joseph Foley selected Block No 7 Nyang in 1910. He arrived in 1911 and cleared scrub. The first crop was grown in 1912 and his family moved up from Wallace in March 1913. Second son Richard built a shop in 1916, brought out Puls and De Mouilpied about 1923 and moved his business to present site. JJ Foley died 1922 and his daughter Mary in 1924. In 1925 RJ Foley sold his business to his mother Mrs, Annie Foley, brother Tom and sister Theresa as A. Foley and Co. They ran the store, Post Office and Telephone Exchange and had many agencies. When Theresa (Triss) married CE Lightfoot, Shire Engineer to the Shire of Walpeup, and Mrs Foley retired. Tom ran the bussiness alone until his marriage in September 1946 to Jeanne Stone. Together they ran a very successful business until they sold out in 1978 to Roy and Val Latta and retired to Robinvale.

Jim Foley, Tom's brother also farmed in this area and had a store in Underbool. More recently he spent some time in Robinvale with Tom and Jeanne and at Stawell with his sister Triss who was recently widowed.

Tom died at Robinvale in January 1988 whilst these notes were compiled. He was 82. The Torrita Store closed down in 1985. It re-opened as the "Torrita Peppar Pot" a successful restaurant and a bar named the "Tom Foley Bar"

The Foley family went to the Mallee in 1913. The original home block at Torrita now belongs to Charlie Stone who was later to become their son's brother-in-law whem Tom Foley married Jeanne Stone in 1946.
