Notes for Eli Perkins Hoover: I have a copy of the obituary for Eli Perkins Hoover, it was given to his granddaughter Edith and she sent me a hand written copy as the original was too fragile. This is how it reads: Eli P Hoover, son of Jacob and Eliza Hoover was born in Randolph County, North Carolina, April 22, 1853 and departed this life at the house of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Egly near Swayzee, Indiana, January 16, 1925 age 71 years, 8 months and 24 days. He was one of a family of two, his only sister proceeded him in death nearly 10 years. When only 6 years if age he came from North Carolina with his parents and sister to Liberty township, Grant County Indiana, where he grew to manhood and he has lived in the western part of Grant County. In January 1883 he was married to Linnie Collins and to this union was born four children, all of whom survive him, Stella Shane of Green township, Arthur J. of Sims township, Orville of Eldorado, Kansas and Grace Egly of Sims township. His wife preceded him in death 19 years after their marriage of his children he spent many years at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Collins, south of Swayzee and they have said, he was always of a pleasant and sunny disposition, willing to do what little he could to brighten the burdens of others. During his last sickness of 12 weeks he lived with his first son Arthur and later with his daughter Grace. In these 12 weeks he was never heard to complain, nor in any way was to loose faith of Him who had been his guide and faith for so many years. Nearly 40 years ago he united with the Christian Church of Rigdon and has been a True follower of his maker. He leaves to mourn his departure 4 children, 17 grand children, one Neice, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dearest Father, thou has left us And our loss we deeply feel But tis God that has bereft us He can all our sorrows heal Yet again we have to meet Thee When the days of life is fled When in heaven with joy to greet Thee Where no farewell tears is shed
This poem accompanied the obituary. The funeral service was held at Normal Church Sunday conducted by Rev. R.C. Dillman of Swayzee. Burial was in Knox Chapel Cemetery. This is located in Point Isabell, Indiana
** In all the written records I have found , Eli's date of birth was 1858,, I visited the cemetery and on the headstone the date is 1852,, but according to the obituary, the date would have been 1853,, so I have changed the dates to comply with the obituary, the headstone was made some time much later by the looks of it.
