Notes for Mattie Estelle Campbell: Mattie, my great grandmother, lived with my family in the early 60,S. She was in her 80's, depressed and lonely. She would have spells of anger and destroy family pictures, luckily her daughter, Crystal had a few. It is a possibility, I suppose, that Crystal is not a Clevenger, her birth date being a year before Mattie and Lewis's marriage. A birth certificate was never found for Crystal, but a record of her birth was eventually found in Wells Co, Indiana with Lewis listed as the father. Mattie and Crystal did not get along, Noone knows why. Mattie lost 2 other children after she had Crystal, and maybe she was just an angry woman. She did not like her husband and didn't mind telling you so. She had him committed to Richmond mental hospital sometime in the 50's. In the 1920 census, her husband was boarding at Albert Heavilins residence, which would have been Mattie 's Uncle on her mothers side. Mattie was at home in the same city with her boys. Crystal became ill while Mattie was living with us, and the extra aggravation was too much for my mother , so Mattie moved on to her sisters home in California.She out lived all of her children, except Raymond. She would have no contact with her daughter, no visits or correspondence. Just one of those unsolved family mysteries that went to the grave.
