My research started many years ago when I came across an old candy box of unidentified photos that had once belonged to my husband's grandmother. Anna/Annie Margaret Smith was born in 1886 in the area of Pendleton Co., WVA known as Sugar Grove and in 1903 married Robert Lee Hoover of Brushy Fork, WVA. These were the only clues to begin my search. With the usual aids of the US Census, I was able to learn a little more about the Hoover and Smith families who had lived for many generations in this area. It was with the help and encouragment of fellow Pendleton Co. researchers, though that real progress was later made in my research and in the identification of the old photos. We now call our group "The Pendleton Pals" and the fellow members have all become a second family. It didn't take long to realize how much the local families intermarried, so having others that are working the same families has been "heaven sent". If your research should take you into the Brushy Fork/Sugar Grove areas of Pendleton co. (W)Va, I would love to hear from you. The photos are now online in various albums for all to share. Benjamin Hoover received a land grant to almost 300 acres in 1832 in Brushy Fork, (W)Va and he was the grandfather of Robert Lee Hoover. For now, this is where my story begins, since I have not yet been able to place him back beyond this date. Maybe your research will hold the clues that can answer my questions. Happy searching!!!!!!!!
