It's amazing how little I've been able to find out about my family. For several generations, the name Semuel Troy Hooks was passed from father to son in Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina. The last to be given the name was my uncle, who died in 1955 or 1956, shortly before I was born, leaving my grandfather, the postmaster for Goldsboro, as the last to bear the name. I was named Troy Hooks Ross to carry it on, but changed my name in 1981 to Samuel Troy Hooks; this change had precedent, the Army Air Corps had changed my uncle's name from Semuel to Samuel, they apparently just couldn't understand Semuel. If anyone has any information about anyone named Semuel Troy Hooks I'd appreciate hearing about it. At this point I have no living ancestors and no money to work with, so I have to do this as cheaply as possible, I can't subscribe to any of the publications, including the Hooks family newsletter.
