Before my grandmother (Anna Garber Katz 1898-2/22/1988) died in 1988, she gave my mother (Leah Katz Pear) information about her life. Unfortunately, we don't have as much as we would like. For the past 2 years or so, I have been trying to gather as much information from family as I can. Hopefully, I will be able to fill in some of the blanks either by family or by research. From what I know, David Garber was 100 years old when he died in Passaic, NJ in 1925. According to his obituary, he came from Zisolitos (Visoke Litovsk?), Russia in 1895 at age 70. His occupation was grocer. With his first wife (name unknown), he had 2 children that I know of: Hinka Garber Katz: 1862-12/16/47) and Morris Garber. Hinka came to the US about 1924. My grandmother was the daughter of Morris Garber and my grandfather Joseph Katz, Anna's husband, was the son of Hinka Garber Katz. Anna was from Kamenets Litovsk, Grodno Gubernia in Russia/Poland. She came to this country about 1914? My grandfather, born about 1897 in Budka, Poland-Russia and died in Passaic, NJ 12/4/1965, came to this country before 1917 and fought in WWI in France in the US Army. I have some information on his brothers and sisters (Abram Katz (1893-8/21/1954), Rose Katz Rubin (1891 - 2/17/1984), Isadore Katz (7/4/1905-3/29/1982), Riftcha "Rebecca" Katz (1903-4/30/1940) and Sara Katz Aegowitz(?) (b?-1919? in Europe). I have some information on Anna's sisters and brothers as well (Rifka Garber Timinsky 1891-1967), Louis Judel Garber 1/23/1893-11/10/1958), Jennie Garber Antin (1896-5/25/1981). With David's second wife, (Bessie Rochewsky Garber b. 1850 d 4/17/1922)he had 3 sons. They were Ruben Garber (b 1878), Samuel Garber (3/25/1881-1958) and Joseph Garber (b. 1889). I have gathered information from Family, Cemetery stones, the 1920 Census, and in my Grandfather's case, marriage license, military record and naturalization record. I have been able to find Passenger records for Judel Garber, Riwka Garber, and Abram Katz from the Ellis Island site.
