Researching family history of Peter Stainton Hope. Beginning with his paternal grandmother, Alice Stainton, who came to Australia with her siblings from the UK in early 1900s. Also his paternal grandfather Thomas Hope, Alice Stainton's husband, and Thomas's family. Thomas's father was John Hope, who came to Australia from Somerset in the 1850s with his stepfather/uncle William House and his family. John Hope later married Elizabeth Ann Thomas in Sydney in 1874. Elizabeth Ann had herself come to Australia with her parents, from the UK and probably also in the 1850s. Her parents were William and Elizabeth J (?) Thomas. There are plenty of gaps in the information I have on hand about all these strands of the Hope family. I began this research only at the beginning of 2003 and have an awfully long way to go!
