Greetings from the Hopwood family of Sangamon County, Illinois.
This "Page" is designed to provide geneological information on the family of Rushton Hopwood. Rushton Hopwood was born in Lancashire, England in approximately 1798. The son of James Hopwood, a farmer of that shire, Rushton was employed in the print works in Accrington until he was about 60 years old. He was married to Margaret Cock, the daughter of Marsden Cock, a farmer in Lancashire, England.
In 1858, Rushton and Margaret came to America to join their sons, William, Nicolas, James and Marsden in Menard and Sangamon counties. He died January 25, 1869.
Rushton was the father of Marsden(b)9/20/1840; who was the father of Harry (b)11/4/1880; who was the father of Marsden (b) 10/23/1903; who was the father of Henry Lee (b)11/8/1926; who is the father of Gary (b)7/30/1955.
The graves of the first three generations are at the Hopwood cemetary in Sangamon county. Harry and his son Marsden are buried at Hall cemetary in Menard county.
We are interested in information on James Hopwood, the father of Rushton Hopwood and on Marsden Cock, the father of Rushton's wife, Margaret. We can provide information on the decendents of Rushton with the exception of his daughter Alice who remained in England.
