I am researching anything about the origins of the Hope and Dawson families of Louisville, KY. One of the last members of the Dawson family- James Robert Dawson passed away in 1999. His father was named John William Dawson, and his mother Philopena Frances Eicher. I think that the Eichers came from Vienna while it was owned by Germany. I can trace the Dawson family back to Mennus Dawson, who was a distant relative of Robert E. Lee. I have reason to believe that the Dawson family immigrated to Philidelphia from Wales sometime before the turn of the 19th century, but that is questionable. The wife of James Robert was named Terry Horne. Her father was adopted and I can find little to no information on him. However, I can trace her back on her mother's side to Reuben Jefferson Hogue, or a close relative of his. The Hogue family were Cherokee indians, and Reuben Jefferson Hogue actually marched on the trail of tears. There are many Hope's still alive in Louisville including Edward Bruce, Jane Gassman, Richard Allen, Gerald Bruce, Kevin Richard, and Marianne Bryant (daughter of Edward Bruce). I can go back in the Hope family as far as William Mathias, who was the father of Edward Bruce, and Gordia Ann Sampson, his wife. And Danial H. Hope and Mary Elizabeth Hope, the parents of William Mathias. On the Gassman side, I know that Casper Ehll immigrated from the area of Alsace-Lorraine, France to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1849. He became a citizen of the United States in Louisville on Oct. 26, 1897, and I have his immigration papers. He was born sometime in 1835. If you have any information on any of these families or people, it would be greatly appreciated.
NOTE: THE FAMILY TREE FOR MY FAMILY IS SCREWED UP BADLY FOR SOME REASON SO PLEASE DISREGARD ANY INFORMATION ON IT.
