The Gamsbys of Stratford, N.H., and the Eastern Townships

Updated January 4, 2002

About Our Family Research

John Gamsby, a Millwright, born about 1741, emigrated to Boston in 1774 with his family, Margaret Henderson, his wife, and their five children. The children were Dorothea, Ann, John B., George, and Peter. John settled for a time in Stratford, N.H. where his sons married and began families of their own. Ann died young, and Dorothea had a daughter.

Two of the sons, John and Peter, removed to the Eastern Townships of Quebec Province. George remained to raise his family in Stratford, N.H. John's family tended to move westward, and Peter's generally relocated to Manchester, N.H.

The three sons have numerous descendants, a large number of whom are to be found in N.H., Quebec, and westward.

I am interested in making furthur connections within the Gamsby line. John Gansby, Millwright, was my 4th Great Grandfather.
