My motivation for searching for ancestors is due to the aging of some family members. With their failing health, family history is also due to fail unless it is documented before time runs out. I have significant information on my maternal grandfather, but very little on my maternal grandmother. Significantly, I have the same problem on my father's side of the family, especially for both his grandfather and his grandmother and mother. Doesn't help when my paternal grandfather married three times. Research is in the early stages and I've managed to track down paper records of birth and death certificates. However, my maternal great-grandfather came from Alsace Lorraine, sometime in the 1800's, probably around 1850+. Tracking him down is proving to be an obstacle. Still, for the next generations coming through, the outcomes of my family history search will be of benefit to everyone sometime in the future.
