About Our Family Research

The Curlette Family were French Huguenots, Protestants in the predominant Catholic France. The Huguenots were persecuted and driven underground or out of France because of their religious beliefs. It is possible there were different spellings such as Corlet, Corlett, Corlette, Curlet, Curlett. There was a William Curlett who sailed on the Nimrod from Liverpool, England to Ireland, and Italy, and then to New York port July 31, 1828. Wm. was age 30. His wife, Jano or Jane was age 28. Son Wm. age 8. Son Thomas age 3. Not sure where they settled or acquired naturalization in U.S. There were also Corletts and Curletts in the Isle Of Mann, records showing them at the Parish of Ballaugh.
