Researching Horry, Chappell, Eppes, Garthright, and many others.
EPPES PROBLEM
I am looking for the parents of John C. Eppes, my 3GGrandfather....
I think I have found them: John Eppes b. @ 1772 , d. Feb 1830 Charles City County, VA (parents: James Eppes and Mary Bradley) & Elizabeth Carter, married @ 1806. More research to follow at LVA! (Aug 2002)
John C. Eppes appears to have died between 1838 and 1850, since his last child was born in 1838 and he was not found in the 1850 or 1860 census in New Kent County, where his family is found.
I find his family (without him) in New Kent County, VA in in the 1850 & 1860 Census with the following information:
1850 US Census, New Kent Co., VA., Reel 96, Page # 314, Household# 218: Ann Eppes (42F); John T. Eppes (19M); Jane E. Eppes (17F); Sally A. Eppes (13F) in school; Edward Eppes (11M) in school.
1860 US Census, New Kent Co., VA., Family # 373: Jno. T. Eppes (29M), farmer; Mary C. Eppes (26F), Edward Eppes (21M), physician.
My 2GGrandfather is John Temple Eppes of this household.
I cannot find any information on John C. Eppes, other than his wife's name is Ann Carter and she was from Henrico County, VA. New Kent County is one of the "Burned" counties in Va.
WEBB / LAMAR PROBLEM
I am also looking for the Descendants of Whatley & Landrum Lamar. They were "cousins" of my Grandmother Mary Horry Eppes Chappell. Their mother was Bessie Webb Lamar and was last known to be in FL in 1921.
I know that my GGrandmother, Mary Shubrick Horry, lived with Bessie Webb Lamar and her husband Abner Whatley Lamar for a period of time before she was married (after her mother Mattie Caroline Webb Horry died (24 November 1878) and her father Edward Shubrick Horry lost his fortune and fell on hard times).
Mary Shubrick Horry was married to Edward Mitchell Eppes (Sr.) on 25 October 1898 in Norristown, PA, by her uncle Abner Whatly Lamar.
I want to know how Bessie Webb Lamar is related to Mattie Caroline Webb Horry. I am also looking for her descendants, Whatley and Landrum Lamar. I have a picture of these two with my grandmother while she was on her honeymoon in Feb 1921 in FL.
