My oldest known Brigham ancestor was Thomas Brigham, born about 1475 in Holme on Spaulding, Yorkshire England. Thus started a string of Thomases: Thomas born about 1500, Thomas born 1525, Thomas born 1550. Then John, born 1574, and finally John's son Thomas, born 1603. This Thomas married Mercy Hurd, and they immigrated to New England in 1635 aboard the ship "Susan and Ellen." They settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He died December 10, 1652 and is buried on the Old Burial Ground in Cambridge. Through this emigrant, my Brigham line moves from Cambridge to Marlborough, Westborough, Northborough, and finally to Boylston, which was my first home.
My oldest Buxton ancestor was actually Anthonie Taylor, born 1536 in Wookey, Somerset, England. His son John changed his name to John Taylor Buxton, which is one mystery that remains unsolved. John was born and died in Wookey, but at some point he immigrated to Salem, Massachusetts where his son Thomas was born in 1575. My Buxtons move from Salem to Smithfield, RI, back to Salem, then to Grafton and Worcester, and finally to Boylston where my father, Harold, moved when he and my mother married.
