My research for regarding my family tree was based on word of mouth. I had to collect all information over the phone from my maternal aunts and uncles, and one paternal aunt. Most of this information was given only when I asked questions. No one remembered much information regarding generations dated from 1750 to 1900. I remember my mother telling me my g-great grandfather was West Indian born in Mississippi and lived ot be 118 years old. He also was the last slave born to this family. My maternal side is african american/west indian and paternal is african american/jewish. My advise to anyone is make sure you get informaiton from your older generations asap because that could be lost. Someone in the family would be able to give you all information. I didn't get into family research until after my father died and my mother's head injury and now she can't talk and tell me what I need to know, she is the oldest of 8 children and I never wrote down infomaiton whe gave me in my earlier years. So when a family member is telling you something about family write it down and put in a safe place until you are ready to put all you informaiton together. My maternal family members that are living live in Mississippi, Arizona, Arkansas, Iowa, Tennessee, Texas, Illinois and Colorado and I don't know majority of them. My paternal family members that are living live in Mississippi,Colorado, Tennessee, and Kansas.
Maternal surnames: Hamilton/Guffie/Williams/Houston Paternal surnames: Rosenthal/Williams/Houston
