About Our Family Research

What we know so far is that John Houser (jr.) came to the U.S. from Bavaria, Germany at 14yoa in 1835 (Obit for Barbara says came over 1832) with his father, John Sr. and Barbara Andre - John Sr's second wife. They first went to New York city, then Cincinnati, then settled in Crawford County PA - Meadville. My (Steven Houser) lineage goes through John, to Frederick Louis, to John Andrew, to Howard John, to myself.
Rebecca Wright, a cousin through another son of John's: John J., has been invaluable in digging up info.

The non-Houser lineage is slowly being fleshed out as well.

Lt. Cornelius Van Horne fought in the Revolutionary War (New Jersey line; also failed attempt to take Canada from the British). He helped to found Meadville PA along with David Mead. There is controversy as to who the parents of Elizabeth Van Horne were: Cornelius and Sarah or not? We may never know for sure.

Samuel Sloan Jr. (b. 1780), son of Samuel Sloan Sr. b. 1756, settled in Meadville in 1811 and married Elizabeth Van Horne. They had many children including A.J. Sloan, father of Jennie E. Sloan, my GGM.

The Johnson line came from Ireland: Co. Armagh.

William Thomas Walker was born in NY, likely shortly after his parents arrived from England. He married Emma Jayne McDill.

Hugh McDill came to PA from Ireland in 1793.

The Huber line will hopefully be fleshed out through our Huber relations.

We are at a standstill for my Mom's side. James Bunce and Rose Moore cannot be followed back.
