Our James Paul Family has English roots; however, neither the exact date of migration from England to Canada nor any of the specific events relative to this have been uncovered. Research has shown that James Paul, born Oct 7, 1819 (Bristol, England), initially settled in Etobicoke Township, York County, now part of Toronto. I have not been able to determine if he came alone or was accompanied by other family members (wife, parents, siblings, etc.)
Research has shown that James Paul had been married twice and that his first wife (name unknown) passed away sometime between the middle part of 1846 and the end of 1847. By 1848 he had married his second wife, Ann Stagg (Born: 1822), of St, Catharines and by November of that year a son was born.
In 1854 James and Ann Paul relocated to a 150 acre farm in Dawn Township, Lambton County. There they raised their family and after retiring to the nearby Village of Florence they passed away in 1891 and 1887 respectively.
Old records suggest that the Paul family had a close connection to the Town of Toronto and to communities at the westerly end of Lake Erie. OVS records(Death certificates)of four of his children indicate that they were born in Toronto, Hamilton and St. Catharines. In addition, a number of senior Paul family members are insistent that our Paul family is related to the Jarvis family of York County and the Niagara region, specifically to William Jarvis and his son Samuel Peters Jarvis. Both William and Samuel Peters Jarvis were high profile political and/or military residents of Upper Canada. I have been unable to confirm the family tie.
I am attempting to obtain the following...
(1) Information about James Paul in Etobicoke Township and about his family prior to and subsequent his immigration to Upper Canada. (2) Information about James Paul's first wife (name unknown)and additional information about his second wife, Ann Stagg, and her family from St. Catharines, Ontario. (3) Information which confirms the existence or non-existence of a family tie to the Jarvis family of Toronto and the Niagara region. (4) Information from other descendants of James Paul which can be utilized in the preparation of a James Paul Family Tree.
Any and all input will be appreciated.
I am a great, great grandson of James Paul and Ann (Stagg) Paul.
