Samuel and Chloe Howard and their Ancestors and Descendants

Updated February 18, 2001

About Our Family Research

Well folks, I finally decided to get together a website on the Samuel and Chloe Howard family. Since this is my first time at this, I have just put in Sam and Chloe's children and grandchildren and then my own line descending from their son, Andrew, and his wives. As time and desire dictate, the site will encompass more of the extended lineages of the other children of Sam and Chloe. Please feel free to contact me about any of the information that is presented here.

I began this long climb up the family tree many years ago on a visit to my Uncle and Aunt's home in Lexington, Kentucky in 1969. At one of the family gatherings I was introduced to my Great Aunt Belle Fee Howard. Born in 1892 on Slaters Fork in Harlan County, Kentucky, she married James Howard, who was the last child of Nathan and Elizabeth Pope Howard, my great grandparents. Belle told wonderful stories about people and times long past, and it fascinated me. Her memories through her knowledge of other people reached back to the first quarter of the nineteenth century. And it just wasn't who was who and born when. Belle was a real tale spinner. I had never seen my father laugh so hard, or be embarrassed so badly by some of the stories she wove. I am sure many of you have an Aunt Belle in your own fond memories as well. However, as things go I didn't really dive into my family's history until after Belle's death in 1980. There has been many a time I wished I was not so shy about contacting relatives. (This internet thing has changed that lack considerably) At any rate, Belle was my inspiration in all of this and I thank her for it, wherever she may be. And to her daughter, Ruby Fee Jones, who was her mother's daughter.

I think you will find this family history website differs from most that you have seen on the internet. Lineages are presented, but there is also documentation that proves or at least supports the lineages I present. Hopefully I'll be able to add a little bit of background history as well.
