Here is what I know: Father=Floyd Hudgins of Alabama, Mother=Margie Louise Hand of Phenix City, Alabama. After marrying in 1950, they settled in Cusseta, Georgia. First child -- Floyd Wayne Hudgins -- born June 18, 1951. Second child -- Wanda Lynne Hudgins Schorr -- born August 19, 1954. Third child -- William Tyson Hudgins -- born prematurely September 24, 1957, died some months later. Floyd ran for state representative seats from Chattahoochee County, but was unsuccessful. In June 1965, the family moved to Columbus, taking up residence for the next 24 years at 3034 Emory Street. Floyd's political career became successful as a result: he spent two terms in the Ga State House then ran for Senate, remaining the Senator from the 15th District for almost 20 years.
Floyd's parents were Lonnie Hudgins and Ollie Bell Strickalnd, both deceased. Lonnie's parents were James Lisco Hudgins 4/1866--12/26/1950 and Lavicey Strickland 1/24/1876--5/11/1929 from Alabama. Lisco and Lavicey had 10 children. Ollie Bell was also related to a Robinson family. The family is originally from the Birmingham area, near Sportsman's Lake, now called Hudgins Lake. Brother Burlin and sisters Hazel Harrell and Dovey Parrish are deceased; sisters Libbey Jean Riddlespurge and Helen Holder and brothers Ray and Ronald are still living in various locations in Alabama.
Margie's mother was Isabelle Kemp Hand. If I was ever told Grandpa Hand's name -- which I do not think I was -- I do not recall it. I know nothing about Grandma Isabelle's parents. Margie's older brother -- Arnold Marvin Hand -- served in the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. He lived for many years in Florida before moving to Smyrna, Georgia. He is interred at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus. Older sister Bettie Stowe lives here in Columbus, the mother of Franklin Bruce Waller, Marcia Waller Folds, and Valerie Nicole Stowe. Brother Curtis Gilbert Hand lived in Lithonia. He and wife Marilyn raised four children -- Curtis Jr, Steven, Mark, and Jeri Kaye. Jeri Kaye, Marilyn, and Curtis were lain to rest in Lithonia. Sister Brenda Carol Hand Thornton lives in Stockbridge with husband, Oliver Gene. Oliver was raised in Cusseta by Doug and Thelma Thornton. Their only child, Laurie Ann Thornton Gustafson, lives in Carrollton with her husband, Mark.
