Seeking relatives of Peter Hoffmann, born Trier, Germany Oct. 19, 1841. Came to America in May 1855 with two sisters, four brothers. Settled in Manitowac County, Wisconsin where they farmed, then bought a tavern and general store in St. Wendel, WI. Served in Union army, Compay c, 26th Wisconsin Regiment. Wounded at Gettysburg. Returned to Wisconsin, married Elizabeth Schaller in 1866 who had 6 children before her death in 1884.Married Mary Dieringer Feb. 1888 with whom he had 4 children. Names of children from both unions are: Katherine (Mrs. Dominic Wagner)of Cleveland, WI;Mary (Mrs. Gustav Schoengarth)Glendive, Montana and Yakima, Washinton;Peter of Sheboygan, Wi; Lena (Mrs. Heronymus Nennig)Cleveland, WI; Frank of Manitowac, WI; John of Cleveland and Sheboygan Falls, WI;Theckla (Mrs. John Gretz)of St. Wendel, WI; Clara, Irene(Mrs. Ernest Welke) and Norbert of St. Wendel and later Milwaukee, WI. Do I have any cousins out there you have surfed this web site? I am last remaining child of John Hoffman of Sheboygan Falls, WI. I am interested in finding relatives of the two sisters and four brothers (names unknown) who arrived in US in 1855 with my grandfather Peter Hoffmann who would have been 14 years of age at the time. I understand one of the brothers was John who was killed in the Civil War.
