During my research I was fortunate to go back 6 generations of the Munoz Family with the help of living relatives. I have gone as far as researching my great-great grandparents Julian Corrales Munoz who married Josephine Cortinas Casas.
On June 18, 1908, Rufino Casas Munoz was born to Julian Corrales Munoz and Josephine Cortinas Casas in George West, Texas. Rufino worked many different jobs through out his life. It is said he worked as a cowboy on cattle drives in his younger days.
In 1927, Rufino married Eloisa Morin. The two had 7 children together between 1928 to 1943, their children are Modesto, Wilfred "Willie", Julian, John , Lacelia, Rufino Jr., and Amalia.
Sadly, Rufino and Eloisa lost one of their children. Lacelia died at the age of 4 in Raymondsville, Texas in 1941. The exact cause of her death is unknow. It is said she became very ill that year, she was taken to the hospital and she never returned home.
When times were rough Rufino and his family traveled from town to town looking for work. Whether it be working in the fields or being a forman Rufino always had a job. He did transports for farms. Rufino worked hard to support his family.
A year after the birth of Rufino and Eloisa's last born child child, Eloisa became very ill. Eloisa was taken to the hospital. She would return home on March 4, 1944. Eloisa died at home in Raymondsville, Texas. Rufino was left to raise his 6 children with the help from his older children to care for the younger ones.
Months later Rufino would meet Cleotilde Martinez working in the fields. They were married on September 16, 1944. The two had 22 children together between 1947 to 1964. Their children Gilbert, Jose (Joe), Sofia, Erlinda, Samuel, Mary, Lydia, Dora, Rosa, Sylvia, and Sofie.
Rufino and Cleotilde also lost a child, Sofia died on December 12, 1954, she was buried in Tahoka, TX. Her passing was caused by having water in her brain causing her head to swell.
Rufino has a total of 18 children, 42 grandchildren, 61 great grand-children, 20 great great-grandchildren.
