My name is Mark Hughes and I am a descendant of John Hughes and Mary Jane Byrd from Pigeon Roost, NC. John was my gggrandfather. My grandfather Robert Hughes was the oldest of my ggrandfather Earl and Pansy (Barnett) Hughes' 14 children. It would appear that the majority of my families heritage stems from the Toe River Valley and it's surrounding counties. More specifically Mitchell County, NC. It is my goal to first try and track my family name back to see when and from where my specific line of Hughes' emigrated from. Then I want to expand my search from there. I have comfirmed 2 more generations they are Moses Hughes and Hannah Evans-parents of John Hughes. And William Hughes and Martha Ramsey- parents of Moses Hughes. This puts my search back into the late 1780s. My quest is getting harder but closer to my ultimate goal. Mark 8/08
