When I started research on this family, I was put in touch with Rose Family Association & Christine Rose for which I am very thankful. She encourged me when I found so little on this Rose family although they were here before 1653 in Plymouth village of Marshfield. The actual town records were the basis of my research; Duxbury, Marshfield, Penbroke, Rochester, Sutherland, Montague, Northfield & Deerfield MA, Bolton CT. Then as the family seperated and went various directions, I followed one branch to VT then to St. Lawrence NY. From St Lawrence they begain to moved west among these families were my great-great grandparents.
Along came the DNA research on Roses. The family got much larger. Some are connected by written research by myself and others. Some have matching DNA but no clue where the connection lays. We have haplotype Q which is not one of the groups that one would expect to see in early New England family. Many questions have been raised on this. Until we get a DNA from a Rose line that should belong that is not of our DNA match, I will work that Joseph Rose who married Elizabeth Bumpus in Marshfield 1653 was of a English family. Others disagree and they may well be correct that a Native American male entered this line very early after settlement of this county.
